Welcome to
Southborough L’Abri
What is L’Abri?
French for “shelter,” L’Abri is a residential study center in the context of a small community of homes. Born in post-World War II Switzerland when Francis and Edith Schaeffer opened their home to those who came seeking answers to life’s many questions, L’Abri has grown to include eight residential branches in nine countries. Southborough L’Abri has been open for guests since 1979 and is located 30 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts.
We must remember throughout our lives that in God’s sight there are no little people and no little places. Only one thing is important: to be consecrated persons in God’s place for us, at each moment.
– Francis A. Schaeffer
Food cannot take care of spiritual, psychological, and emotional problems, but the feeling of being loved and cared for, the actual comfort of the beauty and flavor of food… and physical well-being, help one to go on during the next hours better equipped to meet the problems.
– Edith Schaeffer

Whether you come through our red door to spend a long weekend, a couple weeks, or a whole term with us, your time at Southborough L’Abri will be shaped by rhythms of study and work, meals shared around a beautiful table, conversation, and cups of tea.
While taking time to come to L’Abri involves stepping away from your “real” life, it is our prayer that you would be made all the more real for it.
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the one who takes refuge in him! (Ps. 34:8)
